private lessons // violin, viola, cello

I believe deeply in the importance of expression through art, and accessibility and equity in the music community. My work as a teaching artist is the most meaningful part of my life.

My approach is soft, welcoming, and well-rounded. Together my students and I enjoy much of the Suzuki Method while also exploring note-reading, music theory, improvisation, non-classical music, composition and diversifying the curriculum of the traditional classical upbringing, a transformation long overdue in our culture. My specialty is connecting with my students and building a safe and warm space to build together a love of music and the community that comes with. It’s not just playing violin and cranking out Suzuki songs. It’s about loving the world music can shape for us.

I am continually striving to maintain a safe, anti-racist, queer-friendly, feminist, body-positive, and celebratory community to provide music for students of all experiences and levels.

“Alexis has been a beacon for our daughter through several storms and truly shines her light in this world. Her consistency, kindness, and ability to meet our learner just where she is over the last 4 years has helped her grow as a person. Alexis' patience and natural gift as a teacher has helped our once very young child begin to develop habits she needs as the big kid she is now and also in life: dedication, communication, preparedness, responsibility, pride, and her own sense of patience. We would follow Alexis anywhere to be in her studio and to learn and grow with her!”
